James Avenue & Edmund Street Sewer Rehabilitation (Bid 18-05A)
The City's Department of Public Works held a pre-construction meeting with Dixie Construction on Wednesday Feb 7, 2018, to replace nearly 800 feet of sanitary sewer main, install manholes along James St. and replace a manhole at Edmund St. Activity on the project site is expected to begin on Monday, February 19, 2018, with the start of delivery of materials to the site. Work will begin Tuesday, February 20, 2018. The contractor has been given the option to store materials and equipment on City property located at the southeastern corner of James St. and Chapel Aly. The entire project is expected to take two months.
Construction along James St. will be broken down into two phases: The first section of work will cover the area from Chapel Aly. to Rogers St. The second section of work will cover the areas from Rogers St. to Law St. Traffic will be restricted along James St. as work progresses in each work area. The contractor will provide notification to residents, schools, and emergency responders during this time.
The construction of the project will require sections of the existing sanitary sewer to be isolated by a series of pump-arounds during the construction process. These pumps will operate 24-hours a day/7-days-a-week until the construction process of a new sanitary sewer main is complete. The project is being divided into two sections to reduce the amount of time residents will be inconvenienced during the construction process.
The James Avenue portion of the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of March with the entire project completed by the middle of April.
