Celebrate America's 250th Anniversary with a Neighborhood Block Party
Mayor Patrick McGrady is personally providing $250 to 10 Aberdeen neighborhoods to host block parties on Sunday, September 6, 2026, as part of Aberdeen's America 250 celebration.
Mayor Patrick McGrady is inviting City of Aberdeen residents to celebrate America's 250th Anniversary by bringing neighbors together for neighborhood block parties on Sunday, September 6, 2026. To help residents create opportunities for connection and community celebration, Mayor McGrady is personally providing ten $250.00 grants to assist Aberdeen neighborhoods with hosting their own block parties during Labor Day Weekend. Money will be awarded on a first-completed, first-served basis.
The neighborhood celebrations will follow Aberdeen's George Washington & Rochambeau Parade on Saturday, September 5, 2026, commemorating the historic route General George Washington traveled through present-day Aberdeen in 1781 on his way to the Yorktown Campaign.
Funds may be used for reasonable event expenses, including food, non-alcoholic beverages, ice, paper products, lawn games, family activities, decorations, and other supplies that help create a successful neighborhood gathering.
Residents interested in applying can download the America 250 Neighborhood Block Party Guide and complete the fillable application. Applications will be accepted beginning August 1, 2026, and must be submitted by August 23, 2026, by 5 p.m. Approved applicants will receive their $250.00 grant before August 25, 2026, in advance of the Labor Day Weekend celebrations.
Completed applications may be submitted by email to pmcgrady@aberdeenmd.gov or delivered in person to Aberdeen City Hall. For additional information or questions, please contact Mayor Patrick McGrady at pmcgrady@aberdeenmd.gov
