Current projects that are contracted or conducted by the City of Aberdeen Department of Public Works are listed below.
South Drive Sewer Improvements
The City of Aberdeen has contracted DXI Construction to upgrade the sewer infrastructure in the vicinity of
- South Drive
- Walker Street
- James Avenue
At this time, James Ave will be closed to all traffic, as DXI replaces and upsizes sewer lines on that road.

The project is estimated to last until 11/30/26 at the latest.

Aberdeen Hills Waterline Replacements
This project consists of the replacement of 4,500 linear feet of water main, including 32 valves, 7 fire hydrants, and 85 complete water service laterals in the vicinity of:
- Shirley Drive
- Ruby Drive
- Doris Circle
The existing cast iron waterline has a high amount of tuberculation and corrosion which affects water quality and system performance. The public bid period for this project has concluded and the project has been awarded to DXI Construction.

While still in preliminary phases, this project is scheduled for completion by end of 2027.

Swan Meadows Utility Improvements
This project consists of the replacement of the water and sewer systems in the Swan Meadows area, including approximately 10,000 feet of water pipe, 9,000 feet of sewer pipe, and 300 lateral replacements for both water and sewer services.
The project has been approved for Federal funding and has been re-advertised for construction bids.
The bidding phase will conclude on September 17, 2026, at which point the City of Aberdeen will review the bids and make recommendations for award.

I-95 Elevated Water Tank
This project consists of the complete construction of a 600,000 gallon elevated steel spheroid water storage tank (water tower) on Technology Drive, with installation of yard piping and connection to an existing water main, to support development on the west side of I-95.
This project is wrapping up with testing and instrumentation configuration.

The project is scheduled for completion by end of summer 2026.

Lead and Copper Rule (Compliance Services)
This project consists of research, verification, and reporting activities to meet EPA & MDE compliance deadlines regarding the City's Water Service Line Inventory.
The initial inventory was submitted, and our City crews are currently working to identify water service line materials throughout the water utility system.

This phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2027.

Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Program
This project consists of ongoing City-wide inspection, repair, and rehabilitation of sanitary sewer assets.
Routine sewer maintenance operations have identified sewer mains, laterals, and manholes throughout the sewer utility system requiring rehabilitation, by way of cured-in-lace liner, to correct defects that cause backups, overflows, inflow, and infiltration.
The second contract year has begun and will focus primarily on the rehabilitation of manholes and service laterals in the Aberdeen Hills area, as well as, some sewer main lining in various locations throughout the City's system.

The Year 2 Scope of this project is scheduled for completion by June 30, 2027.

Street Resurfacing and Sidewalk Repair Program
The FY27 scope of this project has commenced and consist of repaving city owned and/or maintained streets and repair/replace sections of concrete curb, aprons, and sidewalk.
The project is currently focusing on the Hillsdale area for sidewalk connectivity in anticipation of the start of the school year.
